Rules of the battleship game online
The game is a strategy game for two players. Each player places their ships on a grid and tries to guess the positions of their opponent’s ships in order to sink them. The first player to sink all of their opponent’s ships wins the game. In our game, the AI, an internally programmed logic, takes over the function of the second player!
1. choose your ships
The first step is to select your ships and place them in your playing field. To do this, you have the“Alignment” button to choose between horizontal and vertical:
You can choose from the following ships:
- 1x aircraft carrier, 5 fields
- 1x battleship, 4 fields
- 2x Cruiser, 3 fields
- 2x submarine, 2 fields
Your opponent is an AI, our programming logic. This places the same ships (ship type and number of ships are the same) independently and invisibly in your attack field on the right!
2. start and course of the game
Start the game with the“Start” button that now appears.
Make the first attack on the opponent’s playing field. Then always wait until the opponent’s move has been made by our AI (program logic). You can see this from the messages after the opponent’s shot.
In the score field above the playing fields, you can see the number of shots fired and the number of goals scored:

The ship-sinking game has a long tradition and was originally played as a simple paper-and-pencil game. With digitalization, it has found its way onto the internet and now delights players worldwide in its online version.

Strategies for the battelship game
To be successful in the Battleship game online, a well thought-out placement of your ships is crucial. Avoid patterns and place your ships unpredictably. During the game, it is important to proceed systematically and use hits effectively to find the remaining parts of your opponent’s ship. Your opponent uses an AI to find ships with just a few shots. Try it out and learn for yourself too!
Version notes for the online game
V1.0 – 15.03.2025
- In version 1.0, sunk ships are not yet displayed. To implement this, each ship field must be provided with the ship type and the ship ID. -> will be added in the next version.
- The program logic currently searches all fields around a match for further matches. As soon as two hits are in a line, it would be an optimization if the program only searched in one line. However, this would strengthen the opponent and weaken all players.
